Tour Overview

This 14-day guided sightseeing and 4x4 expedition explores Southern Angola’s highlands, deserts, historic towns and wild Atlantic coastline. The journey combines famous landmarks with remote routes that most visitors never experience.

Beyond the Tourist Route

Travel from northern Namibia into Angola through Lubango and Humpata, descend the spectacular Serra da Leba to Namibe, then continue along the remote Atlantic coast through Flamingo, the Vanessa Shipwreck and the Doodsakker. The route continues to Foz do Cunene and Iona before returning through Angola’s dramatic interior, including Lion’s Cave, Colinas, Lake Arco and Tundavala.

Meet at Palmeiras Lodge

Oshikango

Meet the group at Palmeiras Lodge in Oshikango, complete final preparations, vehicle checks and tour briefing before crossing into Angola the following morning.

Leba Plateau

Oshikango to Serra da Leba

Cross into Angola and travel north via Ondjiva, Cahama, Chibia and Lubango. Continue to the Serra da Leba area for the first overnight stop in Angola.

Namibe & Flamingo Coast

Serra da Leba to Flamingo

Descend the spectacular Serra da Leba, continue through Namibe and head south toward the remote Flamingo coastline for the next stage of the expedition.

Flamingo Coast Exploration

Flamingo / Namibe Coast

Spend the day exploring the remote coastline around Flamingo, with beach driving, dramatic Atlantic scenery and time to experience one of Southern Angola’s least-travelled coastal areas.

Vanessa Shipwreck

Flamingo to Vanessa Shipwreck

Continue along the remote Atlantic coast to the Vanessa Shipwreck, with challenging beach driving and dramatic coastal scenery before setting up camp nearby.

Into the Doodsakker

Vanessa Shipwreck to Death Acre / Doodsakker

Leave the Vanessa Shipwreck and continue south along the isolated coastline into the Doodsakker, tackling remote beach sections and establishing camp deep in the coastal wilderness.

Foz do Cunene

Doodsakker to Foz do Cunene

Continue south through the Doodsakker to Foz do Cunene, where the Cunene River reaches the Atlantic. Settle in and explore this remote meeting point of river, desert and ocean.

Explore Foz do Cunene

Foz do Cunene

Spend a full day exploring the Foz do Cunene area, with time around the river mouth, dunes and surrounding desert while enjoying the isolation of this remote coastal region.

Into Iona National Park

Foz do Cunene to Iona National Park

Leave the coast and head inland into Iona National Park, crossing vast desert landscapes and remote wilderness before setting up camp inside one of Angola’s most spectacular protected areas.

Lion’s Cave

Iona National Park to Lion’s Cave

Continue through the remote interior of Iona, exploring the desert landscape before reaching Lion’s Cave for another night in the wilderness.

Colinas & Lake Arco

Lion’s Cave to Colinas and Lake Arco

Travel through the dramatic desert interior via Colinas before continuing to Lake Arco, with unusual rock formations, open landscapes and another remote overnight stop.

Lake Arco to Namibe

Lake Arco to Namibe

Enjoy the final desert scenery around Lake Arco before returning toward Namibe, where the group can rest, refuel and prepare for the journey back into the highlands.

Serra da Leba & Tundavala

Namibe to Lubango / Tundavala

Leave Namibe and climb back into the highlands via Serra da Leba, then continue toward Lubango and Tundavala for a final day of dramatic mountain scenery and viewpoints.

Return to Namibia

Lubango / Huila to Santa Clara & Oshikango

Travel south through Huila toward Santa Clara, cross the border back into Namibia and return to Oshikango, where the 14-day expedition officially comes to an end.
